Monogamy is a myth. It has been rammed down people’s throats for far too long. It isn’t just a matter of excess hormones or vanity, but, as all the research indicates, a genetic configuration found in almost all animals.
Paternity tests given to birds, monkeys and foxes revealed that simply because these species had developed a social relationship very similar to marriage it did not necessarily mean that they had been faithful to each other. David Barash, professor of Psychology at the University of Washington in Seattle had said that the only species in nature that doesn’t commit adultery and in which there seems to be 100% momogamy is a flat worm. The male and female worms meet as adolescents and their bodies literally fuse together.
~ Paulo Coehlo (The Winner Stands Alone)
define monogamy..it may not mean just the physical aspect of a relationship
in fact the adultery that does not involve the physical nature hurts even more
I think with humans this depends on them, on who they are and where they are. For me if my eyes start to stray then I am in the wrong place, and in so being it is time to move on with out prolonging and intensifying the pain.
Though some choose to keep options open, at the end of the day when all falls down they are left often with nothing.
i’d second rambler’s comments than say anything of my own …
Agree with everything… it may be rubbish, or it is rubbish… but let’s look at it from a different angle… why is society trying to ram it down our throats?? what is society?? the day society (people.. made of individuals) can make people immune to pain or accept the fact that it is ok for their loved ones to love someone else, be not possessive… again we are trying to go against nature here.. hope I am trying to make sense… there are two opposing forces…….
attraction is natural and so is possessiveness…. and they don’t quite work together in this case… that’s life… and our fight with it…..
